Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026

COMPÁS is an analytics tool for content creators of every kind — musicians, filmmakers and video creators, writers, podcasters, illustrators and makers. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.

The short version. We collect your email (and your name, if you sign in with Google) so you can log in, and the performance data you choose to connect or upload. We use it to show you your own numbers. We do not sell it, we do not share it with advertisers, and you can delete all of it at any time.

Who we are

COMPÁS is operated by COMPAS LLC, a limited liability company registered in Tennessee, United States, trading as COMPÁS. COMPAS LLC is the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect

WhatWhy
Your email addressTo create your account and send you sign-in links and invitations. We don't use or store passwords.
Your Google account details, if you sign in with GoogleYour name, email address and profile picture, as Google shares them, so we can confirm the account matches your invitation and sign you in. We don't receive your Google password, and we don't access your Gmail, Drive, contacts or anything else in your Google account.
Your name and artist nameTo label your dashboard, if you give them to us.
Performance data from connected accountsFollower counts, streams, listeners, reach, engagement, and audience demographics from platforms you connect — so we can show them to you.
Files you uploadExports from any platform you post on — Spotify for Artists, Apple Music for Artists, TikTok, YouTube Studio, Substack, Patreon and similar — and tracking spreadsheets you keep yourself. We store the original files privately in your account so your dashboard is there when you return, and so we can re-read them as we add support for new file layouts. Only you can access them.
Technical logsOur hosting and sign-in providers automatically record things like IP address, browser type and the time of each sign-in. We use these only to keep the service secure and fix problems. When you open your media kit, our host also reads which country your connection comes from, so it can suggest the “Based in” line. That country is shown only to you, and we don’t save it unless you publish the kit with it. We don't use analytics or tracking tools from other companies. On solcompas.com we keep simple daily totals (for example, how many visits, signups and “try it” lookups happened that day) without cookies and without storing anything that identifies you.
Payment informationIf you buy a paid plan, payment is handled entirely by Stripe on solcompas.com. We never see or store your card number. We keep your plan, its status and renewal date, and the Stripe customer reference that links your account to your subscription. Nothing is sold inside the COMPÁS phone app.

Files that include other people's figures. If you upload a spreadsheet that tracks several artists or accounts — for example, a manager tracking a roster — please only upload figures you're entitled to use. Those files are stored in your account and shown only to you.

Sending us a file layout. If COMPÁS doesn't recognise a file, it may offer to send us the file's column names so we can add support. That message only goes out if you choose to send it, from your own email, and it contains column names — never your figures.

Connecting your platform accounts

You can connect platforms directly, upload the export files they give you, or both. Some platforms only allow connections once they have reviewed our app; until then, export files work the same way.

When you connect a platform such as YouTube or Instagram, you authorise us through that platform's own login. We receive an access token, not your password.

What we read from each platform

We only ever read data for an account you have connected yourself. We never access any other account, and we never see data about the individual people who follow you — audience figures are only ever the aggregate breakdowns the platform provides.

PlatformWhat we read
InstagramYour account ID, username and profile picture. Your media list — post ID, caption, type, permalink, timestamp, cover image and, for your own videos, the video file so we can read what is said and shown in it. Insights for your account: follower count, reach, impressions, likes, saves, and the age, gender and location breakdown of your audience.
YouTubeChannel identity, video list (titles, descriptions and thumbnails), views, watch time, subscriber counts, audience retention and audience demographics for your channel. Only if you choose “Show my earnings”: your channel’s estimated earnings (daily revenue, revenue per 1,000 views, and earnings by video and by country), shown only to you inside your dashboard.
TikTok, Spotify, Apple Music, Substack, Patreon and othersWhere an official connection exists, the equivalent performance and audience figures for your account (for TikTok, also each video's title, description and cover image). Where it does not, we read the export files you upload.

Instagram data specifically. We use it for five things and nothing else: to identify which account you connected, to show your posts and how they performed, to read what your posts say (captions, words on the cover, spoken words and on-screen text) so we can show you which kinds of posts do best, to chart your follower growth over time, and to compare that reach against what happens on your other platforms — streams, subscribers, signups or sales. We do not publish, message, comment on, or take any action on your account. The connection is read-only, it covers only the account you connected, and disconnecting deletes what we hold.

Why we keep a copy. Several platforms delete your historical data. Spotify, for example, only keeps audience demographics for about 28 days. Keeping our own record is the only way to show you how your audience changed over a year. That record is yours, and you can export or delete it whenever you like.

The COMPÁS app for iPhone and Android

The app shows the same account and dashboard as the website and follows this same policy. A few things work differently on a phone:

Signing in with Google

If you choose Continue with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We use them only to sign you in and to label your account. COMPÁS's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can remove COMPÁS's access at any time from your Google account connections.

How we use it

We use your information to:

What we don't do

Comparing you to other creators

COMPÁS can show how you compare with other artists in two ways.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run COMPÁS. They only process data on our instructions:

ProviderWhat they do
SupabaseAccounts and sign-in, our database, and private storage for the files you upload
NetlifyHosts this website and the COMPÁS app
ResendSends sign-in links, invitations and account emails
GoogleSign in with Google, if you choose it; and Google Workspace for our own email and documents
Spotify and YouTube (Google)Public artist and channel figures, through their official developer services
SoundchartsLicensed music-industry data about your public artist profile: streaming, playlist and chart figures, follower counts across platforms, and aggregated audience reports for your public Instagram, TikTok and YouTube accounts (age, gender, country and language shares, engagement, and the public creator accounts that follow you). We also read public figures and playlist placements for artists similar to you, to compare and suggest playlists. We don't send Soundcharts your personal information or files.
StripeProcesses payments for paid plans bought on solcompas.com
Google Firebase Cloud MessagingDelivers notifications to the COMPÁS app on Android, and on iPhone through Apple’s push notification service. It receives the device token and the text of each alert
AnthropicIts Claude AI writes your briefs and answers to Ask COMPÁS, and reads your posts' captions, cover images, and the spoken and on-screen words noted from your videos, to tag what each post is about. It receives only the figures and post content needed for each request.
Google (Gemini)Reads your own videos (Instagram Reels and public YouTube videos) to note the words spoken and shown on screen. Videos are sent one at a time for that purpose only; we keep the words, not the video.

Our AI providers process this data on our behalf under their commercial terms, which do not allow them to use it to train their models.

We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, or to protect our rights or someone's safety. If that ever happens and we're permitted to tell you, we will.

Where your data lives, and for how long

Your data is stored on servers in the United States. We keep it for as long as your account is open. If you close your account, we delete your personal data and performance data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep records for tax or legal reasons.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

Email hello@solcompas.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're in the UK or European Economic Area, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Deleting your data

You can remove your data at any time, and we keep no copies.

Full instructions, including how to revoke access from Instagram directly, are on our data deletion page.

Platform terms

Data we receive from Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, TikTok and Apple Music is also governed by those platforms' own terms and privacy policies, and we handle it in accordance with their developer terms as well as this policy. Where a platform's rules are stricter than ours, theirs apply.

Where you connect a YouTube channel, COMPÁS uses YouTube API Services. By connecting, you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and the Google Privacy Policy applies to data Google receives. You can revoke our access at any time at Google's security settings page.

Security

We use encrypted connections, store access tokens encrypted at rest, and limit access to production data to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously — the data you give us is private and often commercially sensitive, and we treat it that way. If a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you.

Children

COMPÁS is a professional tool and is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Cookies

To keep you signed in, COMPÁS stores a sign-in token in your browser's local storage (or, in the phone app, the app’s private storage), and our sign-in providers (Supabase, and Google if you use it) may set essential cookies during sign-in. These are needed for the service to work. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we'll email you before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
