COMPÁS is an analytics tool for musicians. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.
Who we are
COMPÁS is operated by SOLCOMPÁS LLC, a limited liability company registered in Tennessee, United States. You can reach us at hello@solcompas.com.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To create your account and send you a sign-in link. We don't store passwords. |
| Your name and artist name | To label your dashboard, if you give them to us. |
| Performance data from connected accounts | Follower counts, streams, listeners, reach, engagement, and audience demographics from platforms you connect — so we can show them to you. |
| Files you upload | Exports from Spotify for Artists, Apple Music for Artists, TikTok, and similar. Same purpose. |
| Basic usage information | Which pages you open and when, so we can fix what's broken and improve what's used. |
| Payment information | Handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. |
Connecting your platform accounts
When you connect a platform such as YouTube or Instagram, you authorise us through that platform's own login. We receive an access token, not your password.
- We request read-only access. We cannot post, delete, message, or change anything on your accounts.
- We only request the specific permissions needed to read your analytics.
- You can disconnect any platform at any time, from within COMPÁS or from that platform's own settings.
- Disconnecting stops new data from arriving. Data already collected stays until you delete it or close your account.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- Show you your own numbers, and how they changed
- Send you your monthly summary and account emails
- Answer your questions when you contact us
- Keep the service running, secure, and working properly
- Understand which features get used, so we build the right things
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data. Not to anyone, not ever.
- We don't share your individual data with other artists or users.
- We don't use your data to train machine learning models for other companies.
- We don't serve advertising, and we don't share your data with advertisers.
- We don't post anything to your social accounts.
Comparing you to other artists
In future we may show you how your numbers compare to a group of similar artists. If we do, comparisons will always be aggregated and anonymised — you will never see another artist's individual figures, and they will never see yours. If you'd rather not be included in aggregate comparisons at all, email us and we'll exclude you.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run COMPÁS. They only process data on our instructions:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Railway | Hosts the application and database |
| Netlify | Hosts this website |
| Stripe | Processes payments |
| Google Workspace | Our email and internal documents |
We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, or to protect our rights or someone's safety. If that ever happens and we're permitted to tell you, we will.
Where your data lives, and for how long
Your data is stored on servers in the United States. We keep it for as long as your account is open. If you close your account, we delete your personal data and performance data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep records for tax or legal reasons.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- See your data — request a copy of everything we hold about you
- Export it — download your performance history in a standard format
- Correct it — fix anything inaccurate
- Delete it — close your account and have your data removed
- Object — tell us to stop processing your data for a particular purpose
Email hello@solcompas.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're in the UK or European Economic Area, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
We use encrypted connections, store access tokens encrypted at rest, and limit access to production data to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously — the data you give us is private and often commercially sensitive, and we treat it that way. If a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you.
Children
COMPÁS is not intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we'll email you before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
